Students are expected to complete successfully all particular courses before being approved for promotion to the successive year. During each semester students performance in all mandatory courses is evaluated and recorded.
The final assessment is determined by the instructions of the departments or clinics holding the course. At the end of each course the student ranking is evaluated from the score achieved in multiple choice tests (MCQ) written, oral and/or examinations.
The student assessment scale includes the following grades:
• 5,0 – very good
• 4,5 – more than good
• 4,0 – good
• 3,5 – quite good

• 3,0 – satisfactory
• 2,0 – fail
Some courses use only pass/fail.
If the student fails tests or exams she/he may according to the school regulations take them again.
The state final examinations on all the disciplines according to the syllabus are held within one system through 2 stages:
• testing practical proficiency of final-year students (when exams on clinical disciplines are taken, testing takes place at the patient’s bed)
• testing scientific/theoretical proficiency.
If the student fails to take an exam at the appointed date without any reasonable excuse she/he is assigned a non-passing grade or “failure” that is documented at her/his records before graduating with a medical diploma the candidate is required to complete successfully all the courses by passing examinations with the final grade assigned at least as “satisfactory”.
